Import your first record
This walkthrough shows the quickest path from a barcode, Discogs release ID, or text search to a Shopify product created with Discogs metadata.
Before you start
- Open Discogs Importer from Shopify Admin, then choose the Import tab.
- If possible, use the barcode on the record sleeve. Barcodes are usually faster than text search.
- Decide whether this product should be draft or active. Draft is safest when condition, price, photos, or tags still need review.
1. Search Discogs
- Enter a barcode, Discogs release ID, catalog number, artist/title, or album title in the search box.
- Press Enter or click Search.
- If many results appear, use the format, country, decade, label, and sorting controls to narrow the list.
2. Choose the correct release
Each result starts compact so you can scan artwork, title, artist, year, country, format, label, and catalog number. Open Details only when you need more evidence.
Check these fields when there are close matches
- Format details, such as LP, album, promo, or CD.
- Country and year.
- Label and catalog number.
- Barcode or identifiers.
- Tracklist and notes.
3. Review the product fields
After selecting a release, Discogs Importer shows what will be written to Shopify. Review the product status, price, quantity, condition, product type, vendor, tags, and any custom metafields before creating the product.
Saved Import defaults can pre-fill common values. Per-record fields on the Import screen let you make one-off changes without changing the saved defaults.
4. Create the product
- Click Create Draft Product or Create Active Product.
- Wait for the success message.
- Choose View Shopify product, Go to Shopify Products, or Import another record.
Optional: create or update Discogs Marketplace listings
Pro and Premium stores can connect a Discogs API token on the Sync tab. Once connected, Sync settings control whether Discogs Importer can create Discogs Marketplace listings from Shopify imports or update linked listings later.
Keep Sync off if you only want Shopify product creation.
